WALKWAYS

A great way to upgrade the appearance of your yard is to add paved walkways. Well-planned pathways, especially if paved with travertine, brick, or clay pavers, not only add attractive, permanent features to your home’s exterior.

They also help to increase the curb appeal and value of your property. It is essential that you secure the help of an experienced, professional paver company to help you plan and install your walkways.

HOW TO DESIGN AND BUILD A PAVER WALKWAY

A walkway can be planned and built in eight steps:

PLANNING & DESIGN

Observe the contours of your yard and think about how the paver walkway will flow with them. Choose the appropriate color and material, taking your property’s overall look, feel and color scheme into account.

REMOVE THE OLD WALKWAY

(If there is one) and prepare the way for the new one. Be attentive to foot traffic in your area. You want everybody to be safe and away from the risk of tripping and falling into your renovation area.

MARK OUT THE EDGES OF THE WALKWAY

Use rope or hose to mark the layout of the new walkway. Do it as per your planning and revisit the blueprint if necessary to make sure it's all in sync with your design.

DIG THE BED FOR THE PAVERS

About 8” of topsoil will need to be removed. Make sure the bed is leveled before adding the gravel and bedding sand (4” and 2” respectively). Go step by step.

DESIGNS & PATTERNS FOR WALKWAYS

Pavers can be installed in a variety of patterns and designs, one of their many benefits. You could opt for herringbone, basket weave, running-bond, stack bond, circular, or fan patterns. The choice of pattern will depend on your preferences, as well as your choice of material and the shape of the area of being paved. Contact Molina & Son Brick Pavers Inc. Today!

WALKWAY PAVERS FAQ

Here are answers to some of the most common questions we get asked about walkway pavers:
To prepare the ground for your pavers, you need to excavate a trench about 8 inches deep. This is deep enough to accommodate the gravel bed, the layer of bedding sand, and the pavers themselves. Mark out the perimeter of the walkway carefully and then dig within those lines, make sure to keep the trench level the whole way through. You then add about 4 inches of gravel, which you need to tamp down and keep level. On top of that, a one-inch layer of bedding sand must be placed and then carefully leveled and screeded. Your pavers will go on top of that.
It is not necessary to install concrete under walkway pavers. You need only gravel and sand to create a bed for the pavers, hold them together, and fill in the gaps between them.
Yes, walkway pavers should always be kept level. This starts with leveling the ground before you install the pavers. You should be very careful to ensure that the walkway remains level at every stage of the installation.
