PAVER SEALING FAQ

Do you have questions about paver sealing? These FAQs may give you the answers:
Travertine is extremely durable but it is also porous. For this reason, it would be a good idea to seal your travertine pavers to protect against moisture and the growth of mould and weeds, and guard against icy conditions if you live in an area that is prone to low temperatures in the winter months.
While the answer to this question will differ from sealer to sealer, as rule of thumb, most salers take between four and twelve hours to dry completely. You can walk on your pavers after this time, although the sealer will continue to harden for up to 48 hours.
There is no easy answer to this question. It depends on what you want. There are wet-look and dry-look sealers for you to choose from as per your aesthetic preferences. Budget is also a factor, and you will need to determine whether acrylic, natural or penetrating sealers will work best for your choice of pavers and the environmental conditions. Your paver sealing contractor will be able to advise you on the right choice.
Even though some sealers provide a wet look, this appearance is not accompanied by a slippery surface. Unlike glossy varnishes and sealers used on wooden surfaces, paver sealers will not make the floor slippery.
On average, a good sealer will last for three to five years. This will vary according to factors such as maintenance, traffic and weather.
Before sealing your pavers, you should clean them with a hose or pressure washer to remove any dirt or debris so that these do not become trapped in the sealer coat. You may also want to re-sand the joints until sand is packed up to ⅛” below the chamfered surface of the pavers.
